36 hours to the final of Mr Tilbrook’s Quest!

In about 36 hours’ time, noon of Friday 5th March 2013, we will begin to discover just how successful Mr Tilbrook has been with his ‘quest’ for a Party Election Broadcast for the county council elections.

To achieve that rather dubious target the EDP needs to find 394 candidates to stand under the party’s name.

That equates to around half of the fully paid-up membership at present.

The last time these seats were contested was 2009, the year that the party won the contest for the Mayor of Doncaster.

Four years ago the EDP fielded 76 candidates, as below.

Kent…………………..…24
Essex……………….…..10
Hampshire…………..…8
Bristol………………..…..5
Wiltshire…………………5
Northamptonshire…4
Nottinghamshire……4
West Sussex…………..4
Hertfordshire…………3
Lancashire……………..2
Warwickshire…………2
Cornwall…………………1
East Sussex………….…1
Leicestershire…….….1
Oxfordshire…………..1
Worcestershire……..1
Buckinghamshire…..0
Cambridgeshire…….0
Cumbria………………..0
Derbyshire…………….0
Devon…………………..0
Dorset…………………..0
Durham…………….….0
Gloucestershire……0
Isle of Wight…………0
Isles of Scilly…………0
Lincolnshire…………0
Norfolk……………..…0
North Yorkshire…..0
Northumberland…0
Shropshire…………..0
Somerset………….…0
Staffordshire………0
Suffolk………………..0
Surrey…………………0

AS can be seem the EDP had at least one candidate in 16 0f the 35 authorities in 2009. In next month’s elections they may have difficulty in matching the figures for some places, Bristol, Hampshire and Wiltshire for example but could have a presence in Cambridgeshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire and Staffordshire.

England Watch will be ‘gobsmacked’ if the candidate figures are anywhere near 394, our ‘guesstimate’ is around 115.

The actual figure will be revealed over the next four or five days, whatever it is we expect the bulk of them to be from Essex and Kent and it could be that over half will be former BNP members.

As they say. “Watch this space”!

P.S. The only other English nationalist party to stand in 2009 was the England First Party which had a single candidate in Lancashire.
